Human Rights Day 2017

Highfield, Harare - December 08, 2017

The Civic Forum on Human Development joined the rest of the world in celebrating Human Rights Day.  The Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission hosted the commemorations which kicked off with a march from Gwanzura stadium to Takashinga Cricket Club in Highfield, Harare on the 8th of December 2017 under the theme “Stand up for Human Rights”.   There was a huge turnout with people from all walks of life coming in their numbers to celebrate this day. The Country Director for UNDP, Mr. G. van Montfort officially opened the ceremony highlighting the importance of knowing one’s rights and appreciated all organizations present for a job well done in ensuring people are aware of their rights and working towards a free and democratic Zimbabwe where citizens are empowered to stand up for their rights.  Some of the organizations gracing the event included the Zimbabwe AIDS Victory Association (ZAVIA), Legal Resources Foundation (LRF), Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR), Women and Law in Southern Africa (WLSA) Research Trust, Election Resources Centre (ERC), National AIDS Council (NAC), One Africa, For Youths My Youths, Restless Development and Together as One (TAO).
