The Civic Forum on Human Development was engaged by the International Organization for Migration under the Saameynta project to support the development of a social cohesion strategy in close collaboration with the SW State Directorate of Durable Solutions. The key groups that would be targeted during the process will include local authorities, aid partners and displacement-affected communities to ensure diversified livelihood options, access to basic social services, peaceful coexistence and social cohesion for all. The objective of the Saameynta (‘impact’) joint programme implemented by UNDP, UN-Habitat and IOM is to support the Federal Government of Somalia in its goal to achieve durable solutions for the estimated 3,8 million displaced people in the country by targeting 75,000 IDPs and, also supporting vulnerable host communities in the three cities of Baidoa, Bossaso and Beletweyne. For the targeted state of Southwest State, the focus is Baidoa, the interim capital, with the highest record of drought-related displacement with estimates of 600,000 people who have moved to the city in the past 5 years.
